1st Group Work : Furniture Design

Why hellooo there. I'm sorry to say that i procrastinated posting this but it's the holidays D: and I always feel lazy during the holidays. Not a good thing for a designer in the making i would say... I have got to change that. Soon. >_> I realize I always seem to get off topic... *ahem*

So on 14th August, Tuesday, our PoD lecturer Miss Lisa showed us a slide of repurposed furniture made by designers (absolutely awesome furnitures if u ask me ;D). After that we were asked to gather into groups of 6 to work on designing repurposed furniture- in other words, creating a usable and environmentally friendly piece of furniture. The group I joined consisted of my friends Zu, Lisa, Aina, Priya, and a new friend, K.

And we went to work! Cracking our heads thinking of ideas that would seem useful and crazy at the same time. We were encouraged to use recycled materials, scraps and old junk, and also to spend as little or if possible, no money at all on this project. After coming up with many interesting ideas we decided to go with an environment friendly, multipurpose, recycled old television-turned bookshelf.

After this we have to start working on making our idea a reality... I can't wait :D
I hope it turns out alright

self portrait photos

Here are photos of my self portrait which I mentioned about in my last post. Memory refresh: it isn't the same as the one I made in POD class since i didn't manage to take pictures of it before the leaves wilted...
so I made another 1! Ta-da! (extremely identical) With materials from my mom's garden (sry 'bout that mom D:)

I stuck flowers on the eyes instead this time since it seemed fun at the time. I feel like I'm abusing nature...

my first assignment in Principles of Design (also my first blog post - yayy :P)

I made a self portrait in PoD class on Monday. I think it looks weird... Kinda like how I would look like with green hair and huge eyes. But in a way it would look awesome I guess, walking around with green hair which I don't think I'll be trying anytime soon ...unless it's a wig xD (I think I'm getting off topic, sry Dx)

Anyway, I made my self portrait outside of class, by the lakeside. It was easier to find materials too. The self portrait is made out of leaves for the hair, parts of the eyes and the tongue. The eyes and tongue are both different 'trimmed' leaves, yellow colored leaf for the tongue and dark brown for the eyes.

Initially when I made my portrait I didn't think about sticking on a leaf-tongue but it seemed plain, being all grey and green, so I added the tongue. It seemed less dull that way anyway. I decided to use leaves for the hair as it was a coincidence that i saw the bush had really long leaves which was perfect for using as hair in my portrait. The eyebrows were made from yellow flower petals, also pasted in to add more color to the portrait. The shirt was made by shading the paper over the pebbled floor by the lake.

I have to admit it really does look like my shirt o_O I didn't take a photo of it before the leaves wilted (really smart of me =_=) so the photos I'll be posting will be slightly different from my first, ever so slightly.

p.s. I was supposed to write an essay so i have no idea if this counts as one ._.
I hope it does...
