Assignment: Square Expansion

Hey there. :) As I've stated in my last post, we were given an assignment -refer to title- to make symmetrical and asymmetrical square expansions. And after that we were to present it in class today: Monday. Even though half the class didn't show up today *ahem Hokkien New Year prayings to be done the midnight before*, Miss Lisa decided to let those of us who did come a chance to have our presentation since it would've been a waste to cancel the class just like that. And by presentation I mean displaying our mounted works on the tables for everyone to see.

Now it's time for some progress shots and my sketches >:D

i succeeded in making an arrow piercing design :D

not-so-fine print: looks like poop :(

initial idea- feathers within feather (seemed impossible to cut)

Asymmetrical work:

weeeee lets count! lol

1 foot

2 feet

3,4 feet

5 feet

6 feet! :D ..sounds like distance o-o

walking out of the box

I made it footprints because i had a sudden burst of inspiration that got me excited -for no apparent reason o_o - after glancing at my fridge magnet which is, also the shape of a footprint. I arranged it in a way that made it seem like a person walking out of a box. As you can see, the space in between the footprints increases after coming out of the box. That, to me, symbolizes freedom.

And on to the second work! Which is symmetrical by the way. Though i'm sure its obvious enough >_> I deeply apologize, because during the time i did my assignment i had no idea that my relatives were coming over. After i did find out -my mom called me to help her clear the table, saying our relatives were coming- i panicked and hurried to finish this without taking any progress shots. I really could'nt help it, it was pretty hard to find a day where one of my several relatives did not come over. I mean, I cant possibly just do my homework with guests around, that's just plain rude! \(ಥ□ಥ)/ So really, i got stressed and panicked and all that, but at least my work didn't turn out ruined. right? D:

an arrow, with a burst of speed

I guess i couldn't let go of the inspiration from class i had, since this is an evolution of it. It would seem that I really wanted to do a cutout that showed speed and agility. :P The colour red makes it seem fierce and vibrant too.

Since the other half of our class wasn't here, the presentation will be extended to tomorrow. Then after that, Miss Lisa mentioned today, that she would brief us of our first group assignment. Sounds exciting, yes? xD

Well, thats all for now. :)
Till next time. Baiiiiiiiii~

Squares

hello again! :D
During the most recent 2D class -which was on Tuesday- Miss Lisa gave us an in-class activity that had to do with squares. Well, it's pretty much a recap of most of the things we learnt last year in PoD, in a way. That being said, Miss Lisa showed us a few examples of what she wanted us to do. Use a 2 by 2 inch square and design cutouts on the inside and then arrange the cutouts around the outside, or however way it is designed as. Or in other words, expanding our square. :O

These are my sketches:
I have to say, my creativity that day was a little ...little seeing as all i came up with were few to barely any sketches. :(

Initially i had an inspiration to design an arrow piercing through the square, that is, until i found out that my ears had failed to catch Miss Lisa saying how the cutouts had to be arranged together with the square. So i guess i couldn't use this design, but i really liked it so i'm gonna post it here >:D

Well, time for some progress shots:

my plan on paper

first cutout

and the next
keeping the cut out circles under some paper

and the next cutout

and the next again :P

i felt like a can opener, the way i was cutting >_>

and again xD

arranged the circles for fun :D

Ta-da! (ノ°□°)ノ・゚✧
I envisioned it a little like those water and some sort of jelleton-filled hour glass, except in this case it was bubbles coming out of the box.

horrible quality im sorry D:

We actually had to do 2 squares, if we had enough time to, for the in class activity, so i decided to use the other sketch i came up with in class, and made it at home.

Progress shots! xD

This was how i originally had it designed as:
A sort of square tunnel. But no matter how i looked at it, it just seemed a little off from what i expected it to look like. D:

a tunnel that doesn't exactly look like a tunnel

After that i left it in between the other mounting boards just to make sure it didn't get blown away. Since i did my work upstairs, but there was better light plus my glue and desktop was downstairs, i decided to bring everything downstairs and finish it there. That's how this happened:

a box falling off another box in a tunnel
It actually turned out this way, except vertically, but i thought it looked better horizontal, so i turned it to look like there were boxes falling off inside a tunnel (well that's what it looked like to me :P ) So all in all, my second cutout design was actually accidental. But i like it better this way, more than the original placement since it just seemed wrong anyhow. >_>

In class, we were given an assignment seeing as we had mid-term break (Chinese New Year holiday yayy xD ) which was just the same as in class activity, except we have to do 1 symmetrical and another assymetrical versions.

Hmm, i guess that's all for now.
Till next post. Baiiiiiii~

Self Portrait -2D design in class activity-

Hey there! And I'm back~ :D After about a month (or 2) of blog-free posts, my mind feels a little uncertain about what to write -though i do have a lot to write about in a way >_>

Anyway, it's a new year! -woot- happy new year everyone! :D or rather.. Chinese New Year seeing as it's February already (so fast :O) And it's my second semester here already, at Taylor's Uni. Time flies, really fast o-o Next thing u know i'll have finished this semester and have to decide what to major in, and i am currently wavering between multimedia or graphic design. I might pick multimedia though. Or graphic maybe? I don't know. ahhh it's so perplexing D:

well, i'm sure no one's interested in this self-conflict nonsense i'm currently facing so- onward! to the picture of my first 2D assignment! which pretty much had the same requirements as the 1st PoD assignment we had.

yup, not very self portrait -ish i guess... my friends even commented that it looks like it has antlers ...well i'm sorry if it doesn't look like me, at all. QnQ *sobs at epic fail in corner* -ahem- it's more on concept than it is portrait-iy. This portrait portrays the me around last year March till July. It was before i joined FID and had little to no direction in what to study after SPM.

The face, which has lots of random words, represents the fact that i took sub-science during my last 3 years in SMK or known as high school. Sub-science's main subjects are physics, chemistry, accounts and add-maths. Which i later regretted taking seeing as after SPM i leaned more towards the arts side than the sciences.
The eyes, which is actually holes, punctured by my markers, is actually inspired by a photo that has been circulating facebook recently. The 10x magnified image of an eye is seared into my mind as i'm fascinated yet akwardly disturbed by the fact that the black part of the human eye is in actual fact- a hole. A HOLE. O_O

kinda traumatizing :(
My 'hair' -2 parts, where the colourful parts represents my memories- happy ones, sad ones, angry ones, exciting ones, ones of me and my brother head-butting each other countless times (we were just weird little kids, yep :| ), embarrassing ones, weird ones, unforgettable ones, and even ones long forgotten. ahh memories.. such precious things they are :) The blue yarn part, which i found a whole bunch of just lying around on the table i sat at in class, represents not just mine, but everyone's -the mind. Blue colour because it's what colour the yarn was (nahh i'm kidding) just like the sky, the mind's imagination is as wide, and just like the ocean, it's as deep and mysterious, filled with endless possibilities, always inventing new things, the mind is just so intriguing.

AH DARN D:< i think i wrote too much... it looks like an essay now D: guess i'll end it here then.
Till next post. Baiiiiiii~
